I've received a lot of requests to do one of my loved battery time lapse videos, so this one is for all of you! I set the brightness to 25%, put on a continuous video, and recorded my Surface Pro 4 (Core M model) until the battery died. As you can see in the video, the battery lasted a whopping 11 hours and 22 minutes! Be sure the watch the video below!
In reality, multitasking, web browsing, and keeping the screen brighter than 25% will cause the Surface to work a bit harder and you probably won't get over 11 hours of battery life. That said, the Core M model uses so little energy and generates so little heat that it's actually FANLESS. That's right, there's no fan in the Core M model, unlike the Core i5 and Core i7 mode. But what you gain in battery life, you lose in performance - though it's a worthy trade-off if you don't need the extra speed.
I also tested the Power Cover, which did wonders to boost the battery life in my Surface Pro 3 video, but was bummed when I found it that the Power Cover does not work with the Surface Pro 4! Surprisingly, the Power Cover contacts exist in the Surface Pro 4 (They are in the Surface Pro 3 but not the Surface 3). This leads me to believe that perhaps a Surface Pro 4 Power Cover may be coming in the future. I'm a huge fan of the Power Cover and the extra battery life it brings. I was in battery heaven when I used it with my Surface 2 RT, getting over 20 hours of battery life!! (See the video here)
Overall, the Surface Pro 4 has solid battery life in my experience with it so far. I'd love to hear your battery life experiences so far - please leave a comment below! |
